While there were Alphabets (see the Ugaritic script from 1500BC) that used cuneiforms as letters, it still lacked vowels, which was innovation of the Ancient Greeks (Myceneans), who had latters (vowels and consonants) but also special pictograms for certain words.Īncient text also lacked punctuation marks and spaces between the letters. Languages that sound different than English almost always add more letters, look at Cyrillic script or even at Swedish. My biggest gripe with this cuneiform system is that it represents the letters from modern the Modern English alphabet, used for a very Ancient language (older then the Proto-European). For me, the writing systems makes as much sense as turkeys in Spain before the "discovery" of the Americas by Columbus. Sorry but I'll don't have to say good thing about this subject. IgnorantGuy Chestburster Member 902 XP Jun-19-2018 11:02 PM I would like to ADD this may be harder than it appears, as some of the Engineer Hieroglyphs in Prometheus appear to have a number of DIFFERENT Characters than the Engineer Alphabet provided on the DVD Extras, which had the 26 Letters of the Alphabet Translated but it appears there are a number more Engineer Hieroglyphs than 26

So Feel Free to Discus, Research and Debate and lets see if we can actually Translate some stuff ) If you Translate via the Engineer Alphabet and then Translate those 3 Words from Greek to English you get "Language of the Gods" well Tongues of the Gods. with my Translation in the Banner there are Visible Spaces so that its easier to work out what those Hieroglyphs are. the Most Difficult Task with Engineer Hieroglyphs is they appear to have NO SPACES making it hard to determine the Words. I have a Few Questions in Mind for Wayne Haag that i hopefully can get to pick his brains with. I thought it would be interesting to use this TOPIC to try and not only Translate what we CAN but also if any of us can DIG UP some Information that can help support us, or even contact some of those who worked on Alien Covenant. It appeared that it could be that some of the Translations are done by Translating the Hieroglyphs to English Words and then Translating these to Greek/Latin until we come up with a Word. I am not 100% sure those working with/on this Engineer Language actually had a Set-in-Stone Translation Method/Code. Wayne Haag had mentioned that while in Prometheus many of the Writings had No Translation he mentioned that in Alien Covenant extra care was taken to actually use Engineer Hieroglyphs that actually mean something. While there is NOT much we can Translate from some of these, some of them apparently have Translations and so i thought it would be FUN to try and Translate any that we can. To my knowledge some of the Cuneiform/ Hieroglyphs actually meant something in Prometheus, while others were just Random Gibberish and the Same applies to the Engineer Dialect too. we can use this Topic to Debate about the other FORMS of Cuneiform/ Hieroglyphs that we have seen in the Prequels ( Sacrificial Cup/Bowl and the Ampoule Urns). While there seems to be THREE kinds of Cuneiform/ Hieroglyphs we have seen in PROMETHEUS, the release of ALIEN: COVENANT had kept to the USE of the MAIN style of Writing that we see most commonly used by the Engineers in the TWO Prequels. I would like to Start a Topic were we can Discus the Engineers Language, mainly Focusing on the WRITTEN Cuneiform/ Hieroglyphs of the Engineers.
